On the afternoon of April 24, Mayor Fei Gaoyun received the delegation headed by Phil Martens, president and CEO of Novelis Inc., in the Administration Center. Fei expressed congratulations to Novelis which has completed its first-phase project in Changzhou, and stated that the municipal and district governments would make every effort to assist Novelis in the follow-up projects. Novelis is a leading producer of rolled aluminum and the global leader in beverage can recycling. The company serves customers in sectors including beverage cans, automotive, consumer electronics, construction, foil and packaging. In April 2012, Novelis and Changzhou National High-tech District (CND) signed a strategic investment agreement to build a top-class and one-stop aluminum recycling and manufacturing center in CND with the latest recycling technology and operation model. The first-phase construction was initiated this year, with a total investment of nearly $ 150 million, expecting an annual output of 120,000 tons of aluminum sheet for automotive. Currently, the project is progressing well and has entered the pre-production stage, which will be officially put into operation within 2014, expecting annual sales income of about 2.8 billion yuan .
