Between 00:00 and 24:00 of April 26, eight new locally transmitted confirmed cases of Covid-19 infection (six in Xuzhou and two in Suzhou) were registered in Jiangsu province.

Seventy-six symptomless cases (one in Wuxi, 47 in Xuzhou, 11 in Changzhou, 16 in Suzhou, and one in Yangzhou) were newly reported in the province.

Fifteen more confirmed cases were discharged from hospital on April 26, while 75 asymptomatic carriers were released from medical observation.

Meanwhile, seventy-two confirmed cases (71 local and one inbound) were still under treatment at designated hospitals, while 1,203 asymptomatic carriers (1,199 local and four inbound) were under medical observation.

Experts noted that the Omicron variant of the coronavirus proven to be more transmissible than the Delta variant has imposed a new challenge for epidemic controls. It is necessary to continue with protective measures and keep up with the relevant information from official sources. Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel abroad or trips to areas with medium- or high-risk status or confirmed local cases.
