On Dec 21, it was learned from the transportation authority that the construction of Liyang Tianmu Lake General Airport would be commenced in December 2017. The project will be completed in July 2019. Seated in Hubian Village, Bieqiao Town, Liyang, the airport is located to the north of Changzhou-Liyang Highway, the east of S.241 Highway and the southwest of Changdang Lake. It is 13.2 km away from the center of Liyang and 54 km from Changzhou, with an area of 461 mu (about 30.73 hectares). The total investment is approximately 370 million RMB. The airport is designed to be a category A, class 1B general airport with 30 parking positions on the apron, available for 19 Harbin Y-12 aircrafts, and 11 EC-135 helicopters. In the long term, the airport is reserved as a class 4C airport with water runways. The airport is planned as a general airline hub and urban infrastructure mainly for general flights in emergency rescue, urban environment protection, pilot training and tourism. At the same time, it will support the development of general aviation industry, and provide services like display, sales, repair and modification of general aircrafts and flight test of new airplanes.
