The First Session of the 17th Changzhou Municipal People's Congress opened on the morning of February 23. Chen Jinhu, secretary of the CPC Changzhou Municipal Committee, announced the opening of the session at 9:00 am. The opening plenary heard the Report on the Work of the Government presented by Sheng Lei, acting mayor of Changzhou Municipal People’s Government. The report reviewed the work of the government in the past five years, narrated the plans for the following five years, and clarified the key tasks for 2022. Apart from the government’s work report, the deputies will also hear and deliberate on the work reports of the Standing Committee of the Changzhou People's Congress, the Changzhou Intermediate People's Court, and the Changzhou People's Procuratorate. Reports on the implementation of the city's budget in 2021 and economic and social development plans will be deliberated, and the budget and plans for the new year will be put to a vote. Former leaders of Changzhou, members of the 15th Changzhou Municipal Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and 20 citizen representatives were invited to the opening ceremony. Local deputies to the National People's Congress (NPC) and Jiangsu Provincial People's Congress, and representatives of local Party and government officials attended the meeting through video conferencing.
