On the evening of May 28th in the 70th Cannes Film Festival in France, the Palme d'Or award for short films went to the 15-minute-long Chinese movie A Gentle Night by Qiu Yang, a Changzhou director. This was the first Chinese movie honored the Palme d'Or award for short films. A Gentle Night was shot in Changzhou earlier this year, telling the story of a mother searching at midnight for her daughter who went missing after school. Qiu said the film was inspired by a local news. Scenes of Changzhou Railway Station, BRT stops, the Grand Canal and Qingguo Lane were shot in the film. Li Shuxian, a young Xiju actress, starred as the lead heroine.
