China piloted the use of digital driver's licenses in Tianjin, Chengdu and Suzhou cities from June 1 this year, as part of efforts to streamline services for the convenience of the public.

From October 23, residents in Changzhou can apply for a digital driver’s license, which is valid all over China for traffic management and law enforcement inspection.

More than 2 million residents in Changzhou have obtained digital driver’s licenses so far, according to Deng Jun, deputy chief of the Online Processing Center, Vehicle Management Office, Changzhou Traffic Police Detachment.

He introduced Traffic Management 12123, an official mobile app that accepts applications for a digital license.

A digital driver's license has the same legal status as a physical license, said Deng.

He added that drivers can present a digital license on various occasions, including handling traffic violations or road accidents, filing insurance claims, and renting vehicles.

To get your digital driver's license, you will need to download the latest version of the Traffic Management 12123 app to your smartphone, log into the app with your cellphone or ID number, and follow the prompts. A recent color photo taken within the last six months might need to be uploaded if a digital image of yourself is not available in the system.
