Between 00:00 and 24:00 of April 28, three new locally transmitted confirmed cases of Covid-19 infection (one in Nanjing and two in Xuzhou) were registered in Jiangsu province.

Forty-six symptomless cases (27 in Xuzhou, five in Changzhou, two in Suzhou, and 12 in Yangzhou) were newly reported in the province.

Twelve more confirmed cases were discharged from hospital on April 28, while 109 asymptomatic carriers were released from medical observation.

Meanwhile, 61 confirmed cases (60 local and one inbound) were still under treatment at designated hospitals, while 1,114 asymptomatic carriers (1,113 local and one inbound) were under medical observation.

Experts noted that the Omicron variant of the coronavirus proven to be more transmissible than the Delta variant has imposed a new challenge for epidemic controls. It is necessary to continue with protective measures and keep up with the relevant information from official sources. Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel abroad or trips to areas with medium- or high-risk status or confirmed local cases.
