May Day, or Labor Day, is a public holiday in many countries worldwide. It usually occurs around May 1, but the date varies across countries. It is associated with the start of spring as well as the celebration of workers.

On March 22, 2019, the State Council announced a reshuffling of the working/non-working days for the Labor Day Holiday. Companies and schools will now enjoy an extended four-day break beginning Wednesday May 1 to Saturday May 4, 2019. To compensate these extra days off, two working days have been added on: Sunday 28 April, 2019 and Sunday 5 May, 2019.

International Worker’s Day is a time for family gatherings and fun. Unlike many Chinese holidays, the date of Labour day is based on the Gregorian calendar instead of the lunar calendar.

Labour Day in China first began in 1919. In 1949, the Chinese government officially declared Labour Day to be a national holiday. This holiday originally served as a means of honoring workers across China. In present day, Labour Day is now a fun-filled holiday meant for enjoying some time off with friends and family.
