Changzhou’s two wetland parks rated as national wetland parks

The State Forestry and Grassland Administration recently released the results of the evaluation of pilot national wetland parks in 2018. 112 wetland parks passed the examination and officially became national wetland parks. Changzhou’s Jintan Changdang Lake Wetland Park and Liyang Tianmu Lake Wetland Park are listed among them.

Jintan Changdang Lake Wetland Park, started construction in March 2015, has a total area of 79.69 square kilometers and is divided into five functional areas: ecological conservation area, restoration and reconstruction area, exhibition area, application area and management area. The construction of wetland park highlights ecological protection and restoration, which has invested 7 billion yuan in the past three years to implement six major ecological projects. Nearly 50,000 mu (about 3333.33 hectares) of nets have been completely dismantled; 4,245 abandoned vessels have been cleared up; 10 square kilometers of silt has been dredged from the lake; 4 square kilometers of lake has been rehabilitated; and 20 kilometers of flood embankments have been built. At present, the water quality of the lake area has reached Class III standards, with 406 species of vascular plants, 180 species of phytoplankton, 69 species of fish, shrimps and crabs, and more than 90 species of birds.
