At the entrance of the Tianmu Lake Natural Scenery Park, a national 5A-level scenic spot, now stands a large screen displaying various real-time data collected through the "smart energy e-butler" system, including the park’s environmental temperature, air quality index, tourist flow, etc.

This is a demonstration project of “smart IoT driven electrification jointly implemented by the State Grid Liyang Power Supply Company, the Tianmuhu Township Government and the Jiangsu Tianmu Lake Tourism Co., Ltd. The project was initiated in early 2019. After nearly a year of construction, it was officially put into operation at the end of last year, setting a precedent across the country.

According to reports, such project introduces the comprehensive supply and utilization of photovoltaics, air-source heat pumps and energy storage, combined with the widely applied IoT technology in the electric power industry, connecting the major energy-using equipment in the scenic area to a "smart power platform" through optical fiber and wireless transmission. According to Tao Guohua, a manager of the Tianmu Lake Natural Scenery Park, since the system was put into operation, just in the "Sea World" area, its air-source heat pump has used only 1/4 of the original electricity consumption, which can save 700 kWh daily by comparison.
