As of July 20, 2021, the market entities in Changzhou reached 700,300, among which there were 233,800 enterprises, 463,400 self-employed businesses and 3,100 farmer professional cooperatives.

According to the Changzhou Administration for Market Regulation, by the end of 2017, the number of market entities in Changzhou exceeded 500,000. In the following three and a half years, that number jumped to 700,000.

The reason for the dramatic increase, on the one hand, is due to the growing number of entrepreneurs. On the other hand, the business environment in Changzhou has been constantly improved. It now takes only 0.67 days to open a business in Changzhou, shortened from 2.81 workdays in 2018.

As revealed by the data of the 7th National Population Census, Changzhou is home to 5.278 million permanent residents.
