Changzhou tops the province in the increase of PCT patent applications

The 26th of April marks the 20th World Intellectual Property Day. On April 22, Changzhou held a news conference on its protection of intellectual property rights.

At the conference, the White Paper on the Development of Changzhou’s IPR System in 2019 was released. According to the White Paper, there were 24,858 patent authorizations in 2019, of which 2,581 were patents for inventions, both ranking fourth in the province. A total of 24,421 domestic trademarks were newly registered, six of which were recognized as well-known trademarks, and 5,503 works were registered for copyright. As of the end of 2019, there was a whopping 36.58 patents per 10,000 people in Changzhou. The amount of registered trademarks exceeded the 100,000 mark, reaching 108,194; while the number of well-known trademarks reached 113, ranking second in the province.

The Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) applications, in particular, reached a total of 655 in 2019, ranking first in the province with a year-on-year increase of 201.84%.
