On the morning of December 2nd, the groundbreaking ceremony of 12 water conservation projects in economic development zones was held. Mayor Fei Gaoyun attended the event and delivered a speech.

In the flood season this year, there were two heavy rainfalls in the Taihu Lake Basin and the lower reaches of Yangtze River, during which period the Changzhou section of Grand Canal reached highest water level of 6.08 meters, exceeding the warning level of 1.78 meters, higher than the record registered in 1991. Large areas of flooding endangered people’s lives and caused significant economic losses.

The 12 water conservation projects, with a total investment of about 2 billion yuan and demolition area of 140,000 square meters, includes the renovation of Dingtang Harbor, the remediation of canal waterway, etc. These programs will play a crucial role in next year’s flood season.
