On May 20, the Bureau of Statistics in Changzhou published the statistical communiqué of the 7th National Census. The released document includes the figures of permanent population, registered population, as well as population compositions in terms of gender, age, educated levels, and living areas. As revealed by the census, the number of permanent residents in Changzhou is 5.278 million. Compared with the data of the 6th national census in 2010, the growth rate and the increased number of the population both rank 4th in the province. The total population accounts for 6.23% in Jiangsu, up to No. 7 in the province. Among the permanent residents, 4.068 million people live in the urban areas, an increase of 1.167 million over 2010. The population aged 0-14 in Changzhou stands at 700,000, accounting for 13.26%; the number in the 15-59 age group is 3.522 million, accounting for 66.73%; and that aged 65 and above is 785,000, accounting for 14.88%. Compared with 2010, the number of people with college education per 100,000 people increased from 11,721 to 20,690, which was higher than the provincial average (18,663), ranking 4th in Jiangsu. The 7th national population census reflects the population structure in Changzhou and its changes in the past 10 years. Accurate and detailed information on population will help policymakers to formulate economic and social development plans.
