Recently, it was released by Changzhou Municipal Bureau of Statistics that the city’s working-age population (between 15 to 64 years old) reached 3,647,000, accounting for 77.7% of the resident population, a decrease of 0.6 percentage points over 2013. As the proportion of working-age population declines, the proportion of child and elderly population increases, resulting in a continuous rise in child dependency ratio and aged dependency ratio, while the city's total dependency ratio population increased from 27.9% in 2013 to 28.8% in 2014, up 0.9 percentage points. The dependency ratio is an age-population ratio of those typically not in the labor force (the dependent part) and those typically in the labor force (the productive part). It is used to measure the pressure on productive population.
