Recently, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) announced the annual numbers of international passengers (not including those from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) at a total of 238 airports nationwide, of which 93 airports have opened international routes. According to the statistics, at 12 of these domestic airports, international travelers accounted for 10% or more of total passengers in 2019. Among the nine airports in Jiangsu province, Changzhou International Airport is the only one reaching the 10% level. In 2019, Changzhou Airport handled a total of 488,000 international passengers (not including those from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan), an year-on-year increase of 38.4%, accounting for 12% of the total annual passengers. Since the airport was approved as a category-1 port in 2014, it has opened air routes to 19 destinations in 10 countries including Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Laos, Philippines, Cambodia, Myanmar and Indonesia. Along with a growing number of international travelers, Changzhou Airport has become an important channel for international cultural and people-to-people exchanges as well as economic and trade cooperation in Jiangsu province.
