Recently, the Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government issued theNotice on Printing and Distributing the National Ecological Protection Red Line Plan in Jiangsu Province, and determined the ecological protection red lines in our province. A total of 9 areas in Liyang, Changzhou are included in the national ecological protection red lines.

They are: Shanghuang Shuimushan Provincial Nature Reserve, Shuimushan Eosimias Sinensis Geological Relics Protection Area, Tianmuhu Wetland County-Level Nature Reserve, Tianmuhu National Forest Park, Xijiao Provincial Forest Park, Wawushan Provincial Forest Park, Tianmuhu National Wetland Park (Pilot), Changdanghu National Wetland Park (Pilot), and Changdanghu Important Wetland (of Liyang). The cumulative area is 80.87 square kilometers in total, accounting for 5.27% of Liyang's land area.

Ecological protection red lines refer to compulsory protection of areas with a special ecological function or which are ecologically fragile as the bottom line to maintain and safeguard the nation's ecological security. China's overall ecological environment is fragile and its environmental problems, such as haze, and water and soil pollution, are severe, which makes protecting its ecology an urgent task. The document jointly issued by the General Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council stipulates a clear timetable for determining the ecological protection red lines, which should be completed nationwide by the end of 2020.
