Changzhou has sent 12 medical assistance teams with 57 people to help Zanzibar since 1964

Year 2014 is the 50thAnniversary of the dispatching of Jiangsu Provincial foreign aid medical teams. It is said that Changzhou has altogether sent 12 medical assistance teams with 57 people to help Zanzibar since 1964.

Recently, Changzhou Municipal Health Bureau held a symposium with representatives of elder experts from medical assistance teams to Africa. The seven experts are outstanding representatives of Changzhou’s medical assistance teams to Africa. Some of them were in the first batch of Jiangsu Provincial medical team dispatched to Africa. Some joined the aid to Africa twice. Some are couples who went to Zanzibar one after another. Some used to be the team leader. During their work in Africa, they overcame difficulties such as material privation, language barrier and disease epidemics, and won good reputation by their tenacity and professionalism.

Since 1963, China has started to send medical assistance teams to Africa and other developing countries. Changzhou has altogether sent 12 medical assistance teams with 57 people to help Zanzibar since 1964. Members of the teams have inherited and carried forward the spirit of Chinese medical teams, which is to be fearless of hardship, to be dedicated, to heal the wounded and rescue the dying, and to show boundless love. They have made contributions to the friendship between Africa and China as well as to the world peace.
