On January 26th, it was learned from Wujin District that Jiangsu Provincial Forestry Administration has formally issued the approval of establishing Wujin Gehu (West Taihu) Provincial Wetland Park with a planning area of 1,625 hectares. The planning and construction of the Wetland Park will strictly abide by the basic principles of "scientific conservation and restoration, rational utilization and sustainable development." It will be divided into five functional areas, namely, the conservation area, restoration area, exhibition area, rational utilization area, and management & service area. Among them, the conservation and restoration areas cover an area of about 1,543 hectares, accounting for 94.9% of the total area of wetlands. After the park is completed, the total area of wetlands will reach 1,512 hectares. Wujin District stated that the Gehu (West Taihu) Provincial Wetland Park will be conducive to the progress of the comprehensive improvement work of the wetland ecosystem of Taihu Lake Basin, as well as optimizing the utilization of Gehu Lake’s wetland resources.
