According to the floating population investigation released by City Statistics Department on December, Changzhouhas owned 1.67 million of floating population, accounting for 36.4% of the city's resident population. Among them, 807,000 people come from outside provinces, and 863,000 people come fromJiangsuprovince.

The external population has four impacts onChangzhou’s Economic and social development.

1. To effectively pull the consumer market in the city. The floating population invested their part of income in accommodation, which increase the vitality for city's commercial, catering and service industries.

2. To ease the labor shortage problem in the city.

3. To provide important support for the development of the tertiary industry. In recent years, the external business people gradually become the main force of accommodation and catering industry,and wholesale and retail trade industry.

4. To propose the new requirements for the social management of the city.
