Recently it was learned from the Municipal Bureau of Statistics that Changzhou had a total of 3,164,800 urban residents at the end of 2013, accourting for 67.5% of the city’s population, ranking the forth in Jiangsu Province following Nanjing, Wuxi and Suzhou, 3.4 percentage points higher than the provincial average. Compared with the end of 2012, Changzhou's urban population increased by 6.17 million, up 1.3 percentage points, the growth of which is faster the other cities in south Jiangsu, ranking the sixth throughout the province. Urbanization is an important part of urban modernization and an important indicator to measure the progress of a modern city. In recent years, Changzhou has been focusing on coordinated development of urban and rural areas, the investment in urban infrastructure construction and the process of new urbanization, achieving constant progress of urbanization.
